Speaker 1:

Hey guys, welcome back to the Quinn Essentially you podcast. My name's Craig, I will be your host, and today we are listening into part two of the Stephen Missa interview. I've already released part one and that's about his journey through rugby, and today's episode is the question which I posed to Steve about what advice would he give to a 16 year old version of himself if he was starting out again. Some great insights, and I think those lessons can be taken by everybody and applied to their own personal life both work at home and if you're playing sport, and sport as well. So if, after listening, you feel that somebody else could get benefit or value from listening in, please share it with them. Drop us a comment like if you've enjoyed it, so let's get on with it. I hope you enjoy the episode. Thanks for listening in.

Speaker 2:

I've actually said this before and one advice I would give is look after your body. So for me it was obviously just the excitement of playing and you know, a week or two was too long for me to be up, so I'd always be rushing back to think, rather than taking two weeks to recover, three weeks to fully recover. I'd always be one week shorter and then I'll be back on the field, or two weeks shorter and I'll jump back on the field and actually would set me up longer. So my advice for kids is you know, in terms of right to listen to your body and take the time that you need, because you have your journey in front of you. But you won't reach your journey if you are, you know, always rushing back and you know kind of going up and down, up and down here. So you know, if you're down to take your time, prepare, you know, be 100% before you get up and try again. Where I would be down and I'm 50% and I'm already trying to get up and you know. So I was kind of in that side in terms of offering me in your personal space.

Speaker 2:

Probably my advice is like be open to talk about how you're feeling, and there's massive of their space in terms of me because, like I'm open to a few people. You know I'd say I'm well respected in the community but you know, obviously in the Meris community, but I've done a. I was one of the guest speaker and they talked about the mental space and I actually broke down in front of you know, these rugby boys and boys that I played with and boys that look up to me, but for me I was proud of that moment because actually open the door for them to be like it's okay and for me I always use this as a rather someone open up and break down in front of me, then silently walk and grab the rope and walk to the nearest tree, kind of thing. And you know I've had that few times of my friends done that and and that's why I'm like kind of, you know, if I could try and just know I help them, you know, change and figure out something else.

Speaker 1:

Reach out for help.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah. And you know, to share or think for me is how I say to people I'm talking to is I'm far from judging, no matter what. Yeah, that person or that person's going through, what he has done or she has done, I've got no right to judge. Yeah, I've got to learn one man that can judge us all and and, and. That's what. That's kind of how I, how I see it is. You know with me, if I judge, I'll judge myself myself only. So, yeah, that, that, that, that, that. That's probably my feedback on all my advice on the field and off the field.

Speaker 1:

I really enjoyed that three minutes and 40 seconds and we've covered a lot or Stevens covered a lot, I think for me a number of things that stood out, and that was mind, body and soul. And the first part is rehab be patient, no shortcuts, no bullshit. Wait for when your body's telling you to go back. The other part is sharing. Find somebody who will help you when you are feeling down. Be open to sharing how you're feeling. Be open to letting somebody come in and help you. So that's it from me. Thanks for listening in. I've really enjoyed bringing you this episode and my name is Craig Bartlett. You're listening to the Quinn Essentially you podcast. I'm here to make a difference because to me, every man counts. Thanks for listening in. Take care and bye for now.
